World of Warcraft is one of the best MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) available.  The first question a lot of players ask, especially players new to WOW, is ‘what class should I play?’  While a lot of folks may tell you differently, there is no one Class that outstrips all the others in all ways.  The creators of WOW have struggled to make a balanced game with virtually unlimited things to do.  The best way to answer this question is to determine what sounds like the most fun to you and give it a shot.

So, what follows is a brief run-down of the strengths and weaknesses of the different classes you can play.  One of the many great things about WOW is that the game allows you to create several different characters on the same server.  You can try a class out for a few levels to see whether it appeals to you or not, but keep in mind that some of the best spells and skills don’t come around until the higher levels.  Create, play, experiment and, most of all, have fun.
Once a hunter’s pet dies, though, it might be a good time to run as they don’t do well with melee.  The pet takes a lot of management because they will sometimes attract unwanted attention from mobs and hunters have to pay very close attention to their ammo and pet food supplies.World of Warcraft's single most popular character class, Hunters are excellent at crowd control with their ranged attacks, survival skills and pets that can become powerful allies. (or raid wipers)
Hunters
Hunters can capture and train a wide variety of pets.  The pets act as something of a personal tank, which makes them one of the best soloing classes in the game.  Their tracking skill can give the player a very good idea of the location of mobs in their immediate area and their ranged attacks are unparalleled (except by mages).  The hunter’s pet and access to traps make them very good at player versus player (PvP) battles.
Priests
Priests are, without question, the best healers in the game and can resurrect players who have died.  As such, they are the most sought after by groups who want to run instances and raids.  Priests are even able to do small amounts of healing for the group while doing damage to the enemy.  They can only wear cloth armor, though, and are decidedly squishy.
There is a lot of pressure when you are playing a priest in a group (which can be good or bad, depending on your preference) and, if the enemy breaks through and starts attacking you, you don’t last long.  A traditional healer character type, no raid party would leave without one by their side as doing so would be akin to suicide. Unfortunately, due to its mostly supportive role, this character class is also the least played in the game, making the rewards and praises even greater to those with a fiber of self-sacrifice who choose to follow this path.
Warriors
Warriors can take a lot of damage.  They are able to wear mail armor from level one and can start wearing plate armor at level forty.  They do well solo and play the role of a ‘tank’ for groups.  There is some pressure in groups, as their main job is to hold the mob’s agro (aggression) and keep them from attacking other members.  Warriors can use almost any weapon in the game, but they don’t do a lot of melee (toe to toe) damage.
A typical tanking machine, Warriors are probably the most important class in the raid. When the main tank is down, your raid is wiped. Learn exactly how aggro works and manage it.
Paladin
Paladins are very versatile, combining tanking skills with the ability to cast spells.  Depending on the focus you put on the skill trees, they can do either very well, but not both at the same time.  Paladins also have some very sought after buffs for groups and can resurrect players who have died during battles.  They don’t do the amount of damage that a lot of classes can do, though, and their various spells (blessings, auras and seals) take a lot of management.
This character class tends to become ultra specialized and requires dedication from the start. With their healing abilities as well as high "dps" (lolret), Paladins can thrive on their own just as well as in groups.
Mages
Mages are the best at doing damage with spells.  They can also cause damage to large groups with their area of effect (aoe) spells.  They have the highest damage per second (dps) and can trap mobs, freezing them in place as they rain down the destruction.  Mages are squishy, though, as they can only wear cloth armor and tend to pull agro quickly.  While they can’t do any healing, they can summon food and water to share with other players and have the ability to open portals to transport other players to different lands around the World of Warcraft.
Sheer power is what describes this class best. To compensate for their lack of melee combat, Mages have the highest damage inflicting and massive bursts attacks in the game. Although they will never make it to the front line, Mages always get the praise in mass battles and raids.
Warlock
Warlocks also use pets, but they come in the form of summoned demons.  There is no one demon that works well in every situation and the spells they cast use up mana very fast.  Warlocks are great at debuffing enemies, have a large amount of stamina and can teleport players to their location.  A warlock can be tough to play, but, when played well, are very strong as a class.  Not a fighting class in itself, but not your typical spell caster either,
Warlocks effectively combine their spells and abilities in a succession of attacks to weaken their adversaries as they head to battle and take them out with help from their summoned familiars.
Rogues
Rogues are a very interesting class.  Their stealth ability gives them easier access to areas that other classes have to fight their way into and they do the most melee damage of any class.  Rogues are the only ones with the ability to open locks and their various abilities are some of the most fun to play.  They can only wear leather armor, though, so damage tends to build up quickly and they rely very heavily on daggers.  While rogues can be a lot of fun to play, they are the least sought after class in the game.
Stealth combats, poisons, combo attacks; these are all part of the Rogue's dark arsenal of skills and powers. Where Hunters are champions of hit-and-run attacks, Rogues are masters of shadows and lethal surprise attacks. Taking down sentries and support characters is child's play to any well trained Rogue.
Druids
Druids are able to shapeshift into several different forms, depending on what is needed at any given time.  They can heal, tank or provide a lot of damage per second. They don’t excel at any of these skills, though.  They are a very flexible class and even have forms available for faster travel, but the druid class is a very tough class to master.  Possibly the most wanted arena class,
Druids and their shape shifting ability can easily switch from tanking to spell casting forms in a flash, making them a very powerful support character and deadly foe with its ability to mimic and adjust swiftly.
Shamans
The shaman is probably the best combination of fighter/spell caster.  They can wear mail at level forty and can use a shield.  They can heal and even resurrect themselves, and then resurrect the rest of the party, in the case of a total wipeout.  The totems that they use can best be described as aoe buffs; anybody standing near the totems receives the benefits, but the totems are intensive when it comes to management.  Shamans can easily be described as the most complex character class available in the game.
Playing a Shaman character opens a whole new world of opportunities as an interesting blend of mage-warrior, but requires good understanding of it's abilities and unique traits.
Death Knight
A hybrid, melee casting machine, Death Knights are one of the most versatile classes in the game and also one of the hardest to play. Learn how to tank a raid one night and rule the Arena the next using your diseases, ghouls, and devastating strikes.
